Looking back at the old days
Oh what a lot to cherish
Miss those beautiful days where
We lived happily without any worries
Not lived in a castle or palace
Not born with a silver spoon or rich
But born to a Godly parents
Who were rich in heart and soul
Darling, Lady, Madam
Sweety, Beauty and Prince
The titles dad knighted affectionately
For his little princes and princesses
Queen in tamil, the king called his beloved
Our little house at Byrde Pace
Just one room for all of us
The room filled with beds for all
Never looked so small for any of us
Fondly mum and dad made
Cakes, ice cream, rolls, lattu and more
Yummy treat for us next day
Non can match the taste till mow
Little house on the Prairie, Oshin
Dynasty, V, knight Rider and more
The tv series that we watched
With mom and dad after dinner
Dad’s special night coffee mom loved
Ovaltin, Milo, Bournvita and more
Carefully dad made for us before bedtime
Still remember the days dad
Woke me up from sleep for a night cap
Big guava tree in our small front yard
Good fun when we climbed for fruit
So many potted plants and shrubs mom loved
Carefully watered and nurtured grew well
Walking on the streets looking at shops
Mom adored some statues on display
Proudly brimming with a big smile
Bags full of stuffs that dad brings home
On his pay day the surprise we all loved
That beautiful statue with all the goodies
Loved the shrine with full of statues
Mom and dad arranged for special pooja
Made vadai, pongal, lattu and more
Big feast for friends and family
Never stopping ever flooding relatives and friends
Ever accommodating never tired parents
Taking them out cooking and entertaining
Giving them the only room we had
Sleeping on the floor on a small mat
So much unforgettable moments
We had those days in that little home
The one and only holiday we loved
During every school vacation
A nice train journey to home town
What an eventful days those were
With lot of preparation before we left
Mom packed all our bags and stuffs
Dad made special cakes and idly
Enjoyed by the neighbors and all
Back in home town it was a big treat
Non stop we played all day long
No toys no TV no internet no mobile
Still we played never complained
Never stopped never bored at all
Till mom or grandma called us in
To have shower and eat our meal
Tales of two cities, Aladin, Alibaba
Mahabarath, Ramayana and lot more
The epic stories we heard and awed
When dad fed lunch for we all
So many stories so many scenes
All he narrated with so much love for us
Saw the battlefield, saw Bhima, saw Arjuna
Saw Krishna saw Rama all the visions
Never will I forget how dad described
Festival days were so special at home town
Preparation for it took week or so
New clothes for all they bought or mum made
Were big hit little trend setters we were
Wow to watch my grandma polishing
Front yard with cow dung for pongal
Acha’s cycle ring art work with rice flour
Awesome work food to ants many
Cooking Pongal outside on the polished floor
Waiting for Sun God an offering to him
Oh what a memory we all prayed together
But little kids our eyes were on the food
Happy days those were
Hard days some mom and dad had
Carefully tried to cover it from us
Smart kids we got to know
Little kids we were at that time
Couldn’t help at hard times
Lot more to write lot more to say
Will stop for the time being
Enough reading for you guys now
Hope my walk down the memory lane
Made you warmly think back
The beautiful days you had too
Will continue my writings for myself
The beautiful childhood I had
Happy days those were now I think
Hard to forget easy to recollect
Wish I go back to those days
Will have no regrets if I could
